Reflection Unit 3

Reflection We chose to present this project in the form of a podcast. We wanted to do something different than what we had not done in previous units and a podcast is a fun and interactive way to present our findings. We also chose this medium because we were each doing interviews it was a simple way of being able to convey what we learned in our interviews, to our audience. It can be difficult to ensure that what the people you are interviewing are saying is taken the way in which they mean it, when it is in writing. With a podcast a listener can feel like they are in the room while the interview is happening. This ensures that comments are not taken out of context, as social interaction can be hard to embody by print. Our topic can sometimes be a sensitive one, it was important to us to be respectful. Unit 3 Project

About me: Sophie Teitel I am from a suburban town in northern New Jersey. Coming from a town like this I was lucky enough to be able to have a plethora of different technologies at my fingertips for the duration of my lower education career. That being said, I have a growing interest in how this affects students like myself as well as how a lack of these amenities can affect other students throughout their educational careers and post grad. I am really excited for this collaboration with my other classmates so that we can explore more ways technology use in the classroom affects students through the explorations of each of our own subject matters!

Graphic Novels

We went to the library again to check out some text. This time the class honed in on graphic novels. The graphic novel I chose to check out is called, "The Complete Peanuts 1959 to 1960" by Charles M. Schulz. You could say that a graphic novel is like technology because both of them can be used as tools. Reading this graphic novel gave me a whole new experience reading as I have never read one before. It was a bit strange to adjust to but I don’t mind it. I like all the little blocks of text and all of the graphics involved which makes it a smoother read. The Complete Peanuts 1959 to 1960 opens up with Lucy saying to Linus, "this is a list I made up of all your faults." ( Schulz 1) This instantly sparked a technology relationship in my head. Technology is meant to fix a problem and to do this you have to figure out what is going wrong. Lucy clearly did this for Linus and wrote it up and handed it to him. Film Review

I watched the documentary, Take Your Pills , which is about the growing epidemic of ADD and ADHD medication abuse. I personally thought the documentary was complete and utter bullshit and was really quite disappointed with it. The review that I chose to focus on, written by Christopher Campbell, agreed with me. Campbell rips apart the film seemingly taking every point made in the film and proving it wrong with additional support. He even went as far as to say, “In my case, it made me extremely angry,” (Campbell 1). The film focusses all on the abuse of the drug but as Campbell points out, “ Well, for anyone without proper information on the drugs, the cost can be the same as any substance abused out of ignorance,” (Campbell 1). Adderall is a prescription drug and like any prescription drug there’s consequences, abusers and other issues.
